Effects of Marijuana on Male Fertility
People blamed marijuana for male fertility problems for decades. Science now proves the opposite: Cannabis is innocent and resolves these issues instead.
Cannabis remains steeped in propaganda. For decades, people have believed marijuana’s impact on fertility a bad one. Thousands of peer-reviewed studies in the past suggest that weed lowers sperm strength, count, and quality. Some even went so far as to suggest that it caused infertility in young men. The truth is always stranger than fiction, and the reality is that this data is nothing but factually false.
Truth of Marijuana and Male Fertility
Historically, studies typically linked male infertility with smoking cannabis. According to WebMD, one in particular found that marijuana made sperm “high.” Even if the woman smoked and not the man, sperm still became hyperactive and burned itself out long before getting anywhere near the egg. A new study destroys this hypothesis, however, proving the positive effects of cannabis on male fertility.
Study Proves Marijuana’s Positive Impact on Male Fertility
The new study resulted in exciting and interesting findings. It suggests that CB2 actually helps regulate sperm creation. CB2 is a natural endocannabinoid receptor produced by the human body, and it is receptive to absorbing marijuana cannabinoids just as well. Because cannabinoids have medicinal properties, the study suggests that pot may actually cure male infertility or treat it therapeutically.
The research focused primarily on improving fertility rates in men. According to the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology, the study analyzed three mice groups. One of the scientists involved wanted to find out if male infertility could account for up to 70 percent of conception problems worldwide.
Group 3 was the control group. They received a saline solution and nothing else. Scientists gave the first group stimulants to activate the CB2 receptor, while giving the second group CB2 inhibitors. After two to three weeks, the activated group showed higher spermatogenesis. This means that the primordial germ cells were producing more sperm instead of less.
The second, inhibitor-treated group was generating sperm at much slower rates, indicating that active CB2 is crucial to the process of spermatogenesis. In a complete turnabout of the historical status quo, the study concludes that the benefits of endogenous cannabinoids on sperm production may prove an effective treatment for male infertility, as opposed to the mislaid blame previously laid onto it.
Other Possible Causes of Male Infertility
It is true that male fertility is declining across the population. Because cannabis is not to blame for it, however, it may be wise for science to find the real answer. Perhaps the air we breathe, the food we eat, and the water we drink deserves scientific analysis. Many potential culprits exist in the societies that we live in. Besides medical illness, environmental conditions play a crucial role in reproduction.
Treating Male Infertility with Marijuana
It is advisable to visit a doctor if you suspect sterility. Licensed cannabis physicians can recommend medical marijuana to treat it. Because the body absorbs cannabinoids so well, receiving CB2 receptors deliver focused healing with maximum impact by stimulating sperm production directly. Experts recommend concentrated products, such as oils and tinctures, for best results.
Cannabis and Male Fertility Contradictions
There is a massive downside to all of this excitement. Activating CB2 receptors has the potential to suppress the production of crucial testosterone. The same study used a synthetic THC molecule instead of a natural one, though. There is suspicion on other molecules used to make it, especially now that proof exists to show that male fertility relies heavily on the endocannabinoid system.
More research is underway to answer these questions. Until then, we must assume that prolonged or persistent endocannabinoid activation could potentially disrupt healthy spermatogenesis by lowering testosterone rates and slowing sperm production. These remain theories for those concerned. Other studies contend no links to any adverse effects on male fertility among those using marijuana.
Other Important Considerations
Because of this study, we now have documented evidence that marijuana is highly compatible with the body’s endocannabinoid receptors. There is huge potential for it to become mainstream treatment for male infertility in the future as science starts lauding its therapeutic abilities. Many documents already exist proving how the endocannabinoid system regulates sex hormones, sperm function, and virility.
This information gives the world several important reasons to accept that using phytocannabinoids to activate spermatogenesis has the potential to treat, even cure, infertility in men. Modulating the necessary pathological factors is now possible with today’s technologies. Perhaps in the immediate future, cannabis will complement lifestyle and dietary therapies to help impaired sperm production.
It may be wiser to use cannabis for conception problems than not. Medical marijuana is treating an uncountable number of patients and their varying conditions most effectively. There seems no limit to the health benefits of weed, and making babies on your favorite strain will make for some worthy adventures in your immediate future.
