How Obesity Leads To Increase in Prostate Cancer Mortality?

Obesity among men causes huge health related issues.  You hear about how fat effects health issues, such heart disease and diabetes, but obesity also effects the male reproductive system, especially the prostate gland.  Read the facts below on obesity in the United States and how this can increase prostate cancer mortality.

Over the past 40 years, the rate of obesity has been exploding in the United  States.   A massive 65% of adults in the US were classified as overweight or  obese, with a body mass index over the accepted normal of 25.  More disturbing is  the 31% of children who are classified as overweight or obese.  If you are an adult over the age of 30, look at your school pictures from when you were a child.  Maybe one kid in your class was overweight.  Now look at kids today, and you will see close to half the kids in any class are overweight or obese.  This is an alarming and dangerous trend.  Americans are getting fatter, and the health implications will be staggering.

Since 40% of  Americans do not exercise regularly, a dangerous trend is emerging.  This dangerous combination of increased food consumption, or consumption of food high in trans-fats and decreased physical activity has taken a tragic toll on Americans  and has resulted in increased rates of a multitude of diseases.

Medical studies have identified  a link between obesity and the  increased chance of death from prostate cancer.  Most studies show that men who are obese are twice as likely to die from prostate cancer than men who maintain healthy eating habits and get some sort of exercise on a regular basis.  Rather than just focusing on weight, the researchers used the men’s BMI (body mass indicator), which is a more reliable indicator if a man is obese or not.  The study concluded that overweight and obese men are 2.6 times more likely to die from prostate cancer than men of normal weight who developed prostate cancer.

Whatever nutritional approaches the individual chooses for prostate health,  weight management and a prostate supplement is a critical component for an overall strategy.  Increasing  fresh vegetables in your can be beneficial, as long as they’re not swimming in high-fat  dressings, oils, or sauces.   Nuts can be an excellent source of some key  nutrients, but they can also be very high in calories and fat.  Knowing what to eat is a start, the real step in incorporating good nutrition into your  lifestyle.

In addition to a healthy diet, exercise is essential for effective weight management as a program to promote healthy prostate function.   Men between the ages of 50 and 65 should also take a daily prostate health supplement to ensure optimum prostate health and function. It is important to exercise regularly, at least 30 minutes a day and at least 3 days  each week. Exercise not only helps burn off extra calories, but help keep the  individual flexible and help maintain muscle strength and endurance. Walking,  jogging, leisure activities, amateur sports, can be effective types of exercise.

The key to preventing obesity and its related health risks is to stay active and eat a healthy diet.  As men age taking care of their prostate becomes more critical to prevent prostate cancer.   Taking care of the  prostate requires taking care of yourself.
